The Montréal Pride Festival Welcomes the New Federal Tourism Growth Strategy
Montréal, May 22, 2019 – Montréal Pride Festival’s Board of Directors, employees and general management welcome the new Federal Tourism Growth Strategy, whose LGBTQ+ perspective was presented this morning by the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie. Investments to supportPride festivals across Canada, including a significant investment of $1 million over two years for Pride Toronto, Montréal Pride and the Vancouver Pride Society were announced.
Regional economic development organizations will work in partnership with Fierté Canada Pride to support more events across the country for Pride celebrations. This is an important news for Pride Montréal, the largest celebration of Pride in Canada and the Francophonie, but also for emerging Pride organizations that don’t have access to recurring funding.
“The Montréal Pride Festival welcomes this announcement with great satisfaction. We are proud of the openness shown to Canadian Pride organizations, recognizing their significant contribution to the tourism industry of our country. As such, it should be remembered that the Montréal Pride Festival generates annual participation of more than 2.1 million people. With this announcement, the Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie strengthens Canada’s leadership position as one of the most inclusive destinations internationally, just as Montréal is preparing to welcome the entire world in 2023, for the WorldPride!” acknowledges Jean Sébastien Boudreault, Vice President of Montréal Pride, during the announcement held in Toronto this morning.
